Link tokens & pass-through parameters

Add click ids, visitor ids and incoming URL parameters to outbound links, and pass tracker parameters through to the offer automatically.

Affiliate tracking depends on information traveling from the ad, through your page, to the offer. Two features handle that: tokens you place in destination URLs, and pass-through, which forwards incoming parameters automatically.

Where destinations live

Each page has named links. The first one, Main offer, is your affiliate link; buttons that point at it update together when you change it. You can add more named links (for comparison pages with several products, say) or give a single button its own URL. Tokens work in all of them.

Available tokens

TokenReplaced with
{np_click_id}A unique id generated for this outbound click
{np_visitor_id}The anonymous id of this visitor
{np_page}The page id
{np_variant}The id of the variation the visitor saw (useful in split tests)
{any_param}The value of that incoming URL parameter — for example {utm_source}, {gclid} or your tracker’s click id parameter

Values are URL-encoded for you. If a value is missing — the visitor arrived without that parameter — the token becomes empty and an empty name= pair is removed, so links stay clean.

Using the click id for sales

{np_click_id} is what connects a sale back to the page and variation that produced it. Put it in the sub-id parameter your network supports (often called sub1, aff_sub, s1 or subid), then send it back in the postback.

Pass-through

Turn on pass-through in the page settings to append every incoming URL parameter to outbound offer links. If an ad sends visitors to your page with ?cid=abc123&utm_source=native, those parameters are added to the offer link when they click.

Pass-through follows three rules:

  1. It never overwrites a parameter the destination already defines.
  2. Internal parameters starting with np_ are never passed on.
  3. It applies to outbound links, not to links within the page.

Pass-through is the simplest way to work alongside a tracker such as Voluum or RedTrack: their click id arrives on your page in the URL and continues to the offer without you editing any links.

When tokens are filled in

Tokens are filled in on the published page at the moment a visitor clicks. In the editor and in private previews they’re not, and a visitor whose browser blocks scripts is sent to the destination with the tokens removed. To test, open the live page with some parameters, for example ?utm_campaign=test, click a button, and look at the address you land on.
